Technology and Libraries

Welcome to the Office of Strategic Information & Innovation (I&I)

In today's educational environment, our students, faculty, and staff are increasingly working with and seeking information. Within the context of the Gilman Skills, we are charged with fostering a community of learners who pursue skills like critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creation. All of these skills are centered around the consumption, creation, and analysis of information and content. Our Strategic Information and Innovation team, which is comprised of our Technology and Library departments, provides our teachers and students with the resources and support to pursue of these skills.

In support of designing equitable and engaging teaching and learning experiences, we aim to collaboratively curate and provide training in using the most effective educational strategies and resources at our disposal.

This team seeks to thoroughly support the School's efforts to innovate, explore, and engage with the growing information resources at our disposal. Our libraries can and should be the central hubs of information sharing, collaboration, teacher and student training, and cross-disciplinary research. We also cross-train our team members to provide opportunities for greater instructional, informational, and technological support within our community. With this broadened, collaborative approach, this new team serves the full PK-12 spectrum and strives to be a real game-changer for how we support teaching and learning at Gilman.

GILMAN LIBRARIES

Gilman enjoys three libraries: the William Passano Library (Lower School), the Walter Lord Library (Middle School), and the Edward R. Fenimore Jr. Memorial Library (Upper School). The three have a combined collection of more than 40,000 print and non-print materials, including books, periodicals, and electronic resources.

Each collection is appropriate to the grades it serves, and all students receive instruction in the use of library resources. Library resources are open to all members of the Gilman community. In addition to research tools, a richly diverse literature collection, and an extensive periodical collection, the library department sponsors book clubs, Books and Bagels Club, book fairs, book swaps, and author visits, and helps design the annual summer reading lists.
