Giving Up Gifts for a Good Cause

The Baltimore Hunger Project (BHP) was the beneficiary of the Lower School's Read-a-Thon, which raised more than $27,000 for the organization. When Aadi '28 learned how BHP helps Baltimore children living with hunger he was inspired to do even more. In lieu of gifts he turned his eighth birthday into a fundraiser, raising $567 for the organization! Recently he delivered the money to BHP and stayed to spend an afternoon volunteering at the facility. Learn more about the impact of community service on Lower School students here.

Gilman Lacrosse Camp 2017

The Gilman Lacrosse Camp is about kids and fun. We are dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of lacrosse in an enjoyable and confidence-building atmosphere, which includes an emphasis on sportsmanship for all our participants and coaches.

Brooks Matthews has worked at Gilman for 23 years where he has both taught and coached in the middle and upper schools.

Coach Matthews has served as Gilman's varsity head coach since 2005 and led the Greyhounds to the 2009 and 2011 MIAA Championships. The staff of current and former Gilman coaches and players possess the technical knowledge and utilize proven teaching techniques for positive instruction. An emphasis on skill development, such as passing, catching, ground balls, dodging, shooting, and footwork helps the kids learn and have fun. In addition, team play is taught so young players learn how to get open for a pass or shot as well as pass to the open man. Contests are held to hone these skills as well as prepare players for full field play during the latter stages of camp.
