Educating Boys

Learning at Gilman is an adventure that celebrates boys. Gilman’s dynamic curriculum encourages each boy at each stage of his educational, emotional, and social development to discover his own innate talents and interests. Nothing a boy does here is considered extracurricular: lessons learned in the chemistry lab or English classroom are as vital as lessons learned on the playing field, in the art studio, or at a soup kitchen.

Gilman’s robust program blends time-honored approaches to learning with the best of educational innovation. We encourage boys to try everything, to sample widely in the arts, athletics, and academics. As a result, this is a place where boys expect to play on the soccer team, sing in our a cappella group, and design and launch rockets. Ultimately, everything we do at Gilman is about building character. We want our boys to excel as students and athletes, actors and artists, scientists and scribes, and we also expect them to distinguish themselves as citizens of honor and integrity. Students spend their days with men and women who have made it their vocation to educate, mentor, and advise boys, guiding them along their path from boys of promise to men of character. Gilman boys possess a wealth of skills and knowledge and a clearer understanding of their roles and responsibilities as citizens in a complex world.
