Giving
Why Give?
Why is charitable giving so important to Gilman? The answer is quite simple: without the generous financial support of alumni, parents, grandparents, corporations, foundations, and friends we would not be able to maintain the quality of learning that distinguishes a Gilman education.
Tuition revenue accounts for only 80% of the cost to educate each student. Charitable financial support balances the School’s operating budget.
Gilman enjoys a long tradition of support from its community, and the true beauty of giving at Gilman is that volunteers drive fund-raising efforts as a labor of love and gratitude. Each year, more than 3,000 members of the Gilman community give their time and support to various events and activities, including nearly 300 people who help raise an average of $500,000 through The Gilman Fund phonathon each fall. On an annual basis, nearly 50% of alumni and 80% of parents contribute through The Gilman Fund. Their support helps us ensure that any boy deserving of a Gilman education benefits from the best environment and the best teachers. Annual giving dollars help us to retain and attract outstanding faculty, maintain the campus and its facilities, provide educational materials and equipment, and support the financial aid program.
Along with annual gifts, the community has supported several capital campaigns over the years. Most recently, alumni, parents, and friends supported the Centennial Campaign: Foundation for a New Century, which raised $18.1 million for new and renovated facilities and endowment for financial aid, technology, and faculty support.
