Recognition

Leadership giving has a tremendous impact on Gilman annually. Donors of $100 or more represent more than 80% of the total funds raised each year. We are proud to recognize these annual contributors through membership in the Founders’ Society, the Ludlow H. Baldwin Society, or one of our leadership gift clubs. Separate from annual giving recognition, the Grasshopper Society perpetually acknowledges donors of deferred gifts.

  • The Founders’ Society

The Founders’ Society recognizes alumni, parents, and friends who contribute $2,500 or more to Gilman in one fiscal year. These donors display a special commitment to the educational standards established in 1897 by the School’s founders. Through their generosity each year, members of the Founders’ Society help to ensure that the quality of a Gilman education continues today. Gilman is excited to announce some changes to our donor recognition program. We have raised the sights for giving at Gilman, and the Board of Trustees recognizes the need to thank our most generous supporters. The Founders’ Society now carries six recognition levels and acknowledges cumulative giving:

    • Anne Galbraith Carey, $50,000 or more
    • Louis Fisher Bruce, $25,000 to $49,999
    • Daniel Coit Gilman, $10,000 to $24,999
    • William A. Fisher, $5,000 to $9,999
    • Homewood, $2,500 to $4,999
    • Young Founders' Society (Classes of 1995-2008), $1,000 to $2,499
    • Tower Circle, Recognizes continuous giving of 5-9 years, 10-14 years and 15 or more years
  • The Ludlow H. Baldwin Society

Named for a passionate educator and past headmaster, this society acknowledges those contributors of $1,000 to $2,499 who provide a vital base of support for the School. Headmaster Ludlow H. Baldwin laid the groundwork for Gilman's financial future by working with J. M. Cooper Walker '33 to initiate the School's annual giving program.
  • Leadership Gift Clubs

Leadership gifts clubs recognize donors of $100 or more to The Gilman Fund at three different levels.
    • Ludlow H. Baldwin Society, $1,000 to $2,499
    • Edward T. Russell Associates, $500 to $999
    • Contributors, $499 and below
  • Class Giving Awards

Gilman School recognizes reunion classes for their achievements through the following awards.
  • Gilman Fund Alumni Honor Roll

The Gilman Fund Alumni Honor Roll recognizes non-reunion classes that recorded an increase over the previous year in two statistical areas: dollar total and participation percentage.
  • Class of 1960 Award

The Class of 1960 Award recognizes a class that has raised $100,000 for The Gilman Fund. It is named for the Class of 1960, the first to achieve that mark.
  • Class of 1954 Reunion Legacy Award

The Class of 1954 Reunion Legacy Award recognizes a class that has raised more than $500,000 for annual and capital projects during a reunion year.
  • Reunion Giving Cup

Established in 1989, this award cup recognizes the 5th through 50th year reunion class that raised the largest gift during a given fiscal year. The cup is awarded when the standing record is broken.
  • Grasshopper Society

The Grasshopper Society recognizes the generosity of participants in the School’s planned giving program. To commemorate the completion in 1910 of the Gilman School’s new Roland Park campus, a grasshopper weathervane, symbolic of freedom and financial success, was chosen to adorn the bell tower of the new building, now called Carey Hall. The Grasshopper Society echoes the weathervane’s symbolism, and the society represents Gilman’s distinguished tradition of giving and its members’ role in ensuring the school’s future financial success.
