Updated and maintained as necessary, Carey Hall has not been completely renovated or significantly improved since its 1910 opening. Considering that first year the student body numbered 175 day and boarding students taught by a dozen faculty, advanced technology most surely meant a manual typewriter, and today’s Upper School cohort is nearly 400 with 64 teachers wired to networks and the Internet, it’s time for a functionally necessary change.

The renovated building will better accommodate new technology and modern teaching. It will boast 15 large and six small/medium fully-technologically capable classrooms, a large faculty center, 11 small meeting and workspaces, common areas for the boys on each level (bringing lockers out of the basement) and air-conditioning. The character and historic beauty of Centennial Hall, the Gilman Room, the Carey Room, the main room of the Edward R. Fenimore Jr. Library (old dining room) and the Common Room will be preserved, and, in some cases, details will be added to some of these areas to restore them to original form.
The renovation is complete. Students and faculty moved in on December 10, 2007.
