January 16 was a fun snow day off school for kids all over Baltimore. Many took advantage of the cold weather but for one Gilman second grader, the fun took a serious turn when his sled bounced off a brick wall. Find out how the Gilman community came together to support Cole and his family.

Middle School art teacher David Anderson was honored as the National Art Education Association’s Middle-Level Teacher of the Year on April 4 at an awards ceremony in Minneapolis.
When Director of Tickner Writing Center Kelsey Carper discovered José Olivarez and his poem “Let’s Get Married” while searching for a poem to be read at her wedding ceremony last year, she knew she wanted to invite him to be the next Mountcastle lecturer. In her introduction, she called his poetry “laugh-out-loud funny and achingly poignant.”
James McLaughlin ’26 began serving on the Student Advisory Board of Baltimore Votes in February. “Our main goal is to encourage students to serve as election judges,” he said. He will lead a panel discussion at the Maryland Civic Education and Engagement Leadership Summit.
The 2024 Cotton Lecture speakers, Andy Cohen '90 and Ryan Gisriel '09, spoke to Upper School students on Wednesday, April 3, sharing about their career paths and lessons they've learned along the way.
Emmitt Sherlock '25 and Bryn Holmes, Associate Director of Athletics and Head Varsity Wrestling Coach, have been named the 2023-2024 All-Metro Wrestler of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, by The Baltimore Sun. Congratulations!
Seniors got to whet their appetites for preparing their own meals when they transition to college in a special Senior Seminar lesson. Students said it was “the best seminar of the year.”
The fourth grade held its annual African American Leadership Project (AALP) alumni panel discussion on Wednesday, March 6. This year, the panel consisted of Black alumni who work in education.
Professor Meredith Broussard, author of “More Than a Glitch: Confronting Race, Gender, and Ability Bias in Tech” spoke to the Gilman community at CIE Night on Thursday, March 7. Her talk concentrated on the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and racism.
