Certamen Trophies for Classics Teams
Certamen Trophies for Classics Teams

Last week the Upper School Classics Club sent two teams to the Eleanor Roosevelt Certamen in Greenbelt, MD, and both teams placed.

A Certamen ("competition" in Latin) is a quiz bowl-style competition where teams compete against each other in Latin grammar, translation, Roman history, myth, and cultural trivia. Ten schools from across Maryland fielded teams at this event, which is the kick-off tournament of the academic year for the Maryland Junior Classical League.

Gilman's intermediate team, sophomores Morgan Zinn, Fenn Arthur, and Aidan Holmgren plus freshman Stefan Velculsescu, placed first in their level. The advanced team, consisting of juniors Matthew Mu, Bryan Huang, and Sami Raza, placed second in theirs.

Congratulations to all!
