General Information

Traditional academic courses for credit and/or review are offered for students entering grades 7 –12. Courses for enrichment and/or review are offered to students in grades 3–12.

Six-week credit courses at the high school level are, of necessity, concentrated. Therefore, it is recommended that students take no more than one such course, although, in the case of unusual circumstances, exceptions to this rule may be made.

Admission to the Gilman Summer Session does not include or imply admission to the regular fall session of Gilman School.

Students who are enrolled in one of the Summer Camp programs or clinics can make arrangements to take courses in the Summer Session.

The Summer Session is coeducational. Classrooms are air-conditioned.

Students from other schools who wish to take a course for credit must make individual arrangements with their own schools before they begin a course by having their principal send a confirming letter to the Summer Session Director. Gilman students wishing to take a credit course must have permission from the appropriate department.

The School reserves the right to withdraw any course if there is insufficient interest in that course.

The School will send reports home for academic courses at the end of the first three weeks and again at the end of the session. Upon written request, final reports and transcripts will be sent to the principal of each student’s school.

The School reserves the right to request the withdrawal at any time of any student who, in its judgment, is unwilling to comply with the rules and practices of Summer Session.

Dress is informal: shorts, slacks, skirts, and sports shirts are appropriate. Shoes must be worn. The School expects that students’ overall appearance will be in keeping with the academic aims of the School.

Students and parents are responsible for knowing and abiding by the rules of the Summer Session and are expected to give their full cooperation both to the rules and to the educational objectives of the School.

Students who drive must park along Roland Avenue or in the Gilman lower parking lot accessible via Northern Parkway. The School driveway may only be used for drop-off and pick-up. Unattended vehicles along the driveway are prohibited.

Attendance in all courses is required. The Summer Session asks that parents call 410.323.3800, extension 279, by 9 a.m. if a student is to be absent.

Tuition & Fees

A $200 registration fee is required of all applicants. This fee, which is non-refundable, will be credited toward tuition charges.

Full payment of all tuition fees is due on Monday, June 23, unless special arrangements have been made with the Director. In the case of a tutorial in which a specific number of hours have been recommended, the tutoring fee in full is due on Monday, June 23. All financial obligations must be settled before a student takes any final examination in any course. No reports to parents or to school will be sent, and no course credits will be registered until all fees are paid in full.

Private tutoring is available in all school disciplines. Tutoring fee: $55 per hour for one student, $50 per hour for two students, $45 per hour for three or more students.

Gilman School Summer Session does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender, or disability.
