Andrew Holt

Lower School Reading Specialist
Lower School

As the Lower School Reading Specialist, Andrew Holt works daily with first and second grade students. Twice in a ten-day cycle, he also works with pre-first and kindergarten students. Mr. Holt also chairs the schedule committee, works as a member of the Lower School support team, admissions committee, language arts committee, newspaper, and robotics club. During the summer, he co-directs Gilman's Learning Camp with Jane Bartlett.

Mr. Holt obtained his B.A. with honors and his PGCE teaching certificate from Bradford College in W. Yorkshire, England. He has a M.A.T from Simmons College and a M.Ed. and a C.A.S. in Reading from Towson University. Prior to teaching at Gilman, he taught first grade in Boston and Baltimore County. He joined the Gilman faculty in 1999. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in instructional technology at Towson University.



When he is not in school, Mr. Holt has several hobbies and interests. Mr. Holt plays in two different bands. The first band is called Teachers for Sale, which comprises of Gilman teachers Mr. Herb, Mr. Howard, and former Gilman Lower School Assistant Principal Dr. Powell. The second group is a neighborhood band known as The Village Idiots. Mr. Holt is also an enthusiastic runner and an avid soccer fan. He is a life-long Manchester United supporter.
Something most people don't know about you?
I was born in England and moved permanently to the United States when I was 25 years old.

What are you passionate about?
Being a vegetarian.
What do you love about your job?

Hearing from parents about how their son has found his passion for reading is what excited me most.
