Ashley Dagenais

Lower School
Mrs. Dagenais is a third grade homeroom teacher who loves playing math games, solving mysteries, and sharing her love of travel and poetry. Mrs. Dagenais also serves as a faculty advisor to the Gilman Gazette, a newspaper written by Lower School students in grades three through five. Before arriving at Gilman in 2006, Mrs. Dagenais spent two years teaching second grade in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and a year student teaching in Springfield and Amherst, Massachusetts. She graduated from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts with a B.A. in sociology and earned a master's degree in elementary education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Away from Gilman, Mrs. Dagenais enjoys running, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family including her cat Stella. She enjoys living in Baltimore City and walking through her neighborhood with her husband and young son. Favorite time of year at Gilman: I love springtime at Gilman. Outside, our beautiful campus is in bloom and the Lower School boys run free on the thawing playground and fields. In the classroom, my students are hitting their stride. We have worked since September to foster independence and responsibility, and it is at this point in the year when students can cooperatively run morning meeting without support, happily settle in for independent reading after PE, and enthusiastically work through challenging multistep math problems.
