After spending three years teaching in Upper School and coaching, Ned Emala took on a new role as Assistant Director of Athletics in 2022. He continues to teach in the Upper School and coach. Prior to joining Gilman, he was a project engineer at Bozzuto Group General Contracting.

What is your favorite spot on Gilman's campus?
Top of Harris terrace looking over athletic fields/arena.

What inspired you to become a teacher?
Long familial history of teachers (particularly mother and grandfather). I have seen the joys and rewards of helping to teach/coach as well as mold young minds.

People may not know…
That I enjoy woodworking. Built a shop in my basement. A hobby that started all the way back in design and woodworking class when I was a Lower Schooler at Gilman.
