Nicole Mitchell
M.A., Middlebury College
Nicole Mitchell began teaching at Gilman in 1990 as a Spanish and Language Arts teacher. She earned her MA in Spanish from Middlebury in 1999, better equipping her to guide students’ language learning. Nicole taught Spanish and was the Middle School Modern Language Department Coordinator for various years before moving into her current position as Assistant Head of Middle School.
She has coached numerous sports; her favorites are cross country, sixth grade hockey, and Alpine Tower. Other memory-makers include lots of outdoor ed excursions, ski weekends, and international travel, including eighth grade trips to Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain, and Italy. Nicole is proud of the Community, Inclusion, and Equity work she has engaged in, including spearheading a Middle School Diversity Conference 2016 that became an annual event.
She is grateful for mentors and co-travelers in the educational journey and the opportunity to support and mentor new teachers, but above all else she is thankful for the boys, who bring their enthusiasm for learning, creativity, and laughter to Gilman.
