
Vaughan Smith
As the Aquatics Director at Gilman, Vaughan Smith teaches pre-first through fifth grade swimming. In the fall, he is the head coach for Middle and Upper School water polo. During winter, he serves as the assistant swim coach for the Middle and Upper School teams. Over the summer, Coach Smith is the head coach and runs the Greyhound Water Polo Club here at the Gilman.
Vaughan Smith was born and raised in Zimbabwe where he attended Prince Edward High School. He received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Illinois in Chicago, graduating in 1991 with a B.S. in Kinesiology. Prior to teaching and coaching he worked on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange trading floor. He came to Gilman in 2011.
When not at Gilman, Coach Smith enjoys time with his family, traveling, camping, and everything the outdoors has to offer.
