Gilman gets boys! Across all levels, lower, middle and upper school, the teachers, administrators and staff understand and relate to the boys. I have been particularly impressed with how they help to develop boys into independent, confident, honorable young men. My boys have been challenged and pushed to strive to be better in academics, sports, leadership and other areas.

The school continually pushes itself as an institution to better itself — stay on top of changes in education, changes in the way boys learn — constantly wanting to improve itself. It turns to parents, to the community, to its alums to find the answers. Setting an example of being a leader for their own students.

My son has been at Gilman for 9 years. It's hard to imagine our lives without Gilman. He is not your typical jock kid. He suffered from some pretty severe stuttering in the lower school but was never teased and well-liked. The boys are taught early on to respect and support each other. He is not the strongest academically but I feel like the teachers and administration know him well and love him for who he is.

The academic support has been outstanding. The music program is phenomenal. There are so many opportunities for music from singing, to band, jazz band, strings etc. Gilman operates on the teacher/coach model, so teachers really KNOW the kids in and out of the classroom. You can always find faculty cheering on the boys on the sidelines. Great racial diversity. No place is perfect and we've been there long enough to know that, but Gilman actually practices what it preaches. Being a Gilman boy means showing respect, working hard, and giving back. We are so grateful to be there.

My son will be starting his Senior year soon and will graduate in 2025. He started at Gilman in 8th grade. If we had known earlier how amazing the Gilman educational experience would be, we would have started him in 6th.

He absolutely loves going to Gilman! He loves everything about it (and so do we) — the small classes, the total availability and dedication of the faculty, the community and the stellar education. He recently committed to play Lacrosse at a very, very good school with only a 14% acceptance rate. His grades and work from Gilman were highly regarded by this school. Highly, highly, highly recommend!

Gilman gave me all the proper skills that I need to strive in college. I did not have single best part of my experience [but one] was representing my school at Penn Relays, a prestigious international track and field meet. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I do not remember my worse experience because it was overshadowed by the overwhelming number of good experiences I had at the school.

GreatSchools Testimonial 1 (Green)

Gilman takes boys and helps them become men. They understand the need for individual assistance to help each student achieve to the student's highest level of skill and knowledge to prepare them for college and how to face life's challenges.

My youngest child attends Gilman's Middle School, and I can't say enough positive things about this school, the education he's receiving, the quality of the teachers, and the incredible Principal and Staff. There is lots of diversity, and there are tons of "really nice boys and families." I was afraid that this would be a "snobbish school" — it's NOT.

This would not be a school I would recommend for children who are not self-motivated — my child is extremely bright (in Honors Classes even at Gilman,) but he works HARD! I worry that he's working TOO hard, but he assures me that he's not, and that he adores school. He and my oldest child, who just graduated from college, and who is preparing to attend medical school, have conversational challenges about what the other knows- and my younger son often knows as much as my oldest! WOW!

My kids love this school. Their teachers are engaging, lesson plans creative, and the kids are really nice. Administration has been very effective and the community is welcoming. Such a great, traditional school — it's worth it for sure. No bullying — the deans are great! Come to Gilman, you won't regret it.
