Intermittent rain and chilly temperatures could not dampen the spirits of the dozens of friends and family members of Christopher Coffland '84 on November 13. The group gathered on the side of Baltimore's Loch Raven Reservoir bridge to participate in a ceremony dedicating the bridge to honor Cpl. Coffland, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2009. The bridge was a favorite fishing spot for Coffland and friends. Among others in attendance were former headmaster John Schmick '67, Willie Franklin '84, Tom Waxter '82, and Les Goldsborough '82.
The event was organized by the Catch a Lift Fund, a nonprofit founded by Lynn Coffland a year after her brother’s death to support combat-wounded veterans regain their mental and physical health.
