Gilman student-athletes spend a lot of time sharpening their physical skills on the athletic fields. But how much time they spend sharpening their mental skills? In an effort to proactively address issues like performance anxiety and pre-game preparation, the JV Lacrosse Team invited noted Sports Psychiatrist and Gilman alum Dr. Arman Taghizadeh '95 to campus in early March to do a session on mental skills training. "Dr. T," as he is affectionately known, led the Greyhounds through a lively discussion on breathing, goal-setting, positive self talk, and other mental factors critical to on-field success. He gave the players and coaches a vocabulary to address these issues, and he promised to come back later in the season to check on their progress. Here is more information on Dr. T's work.
