By day, J.D. Kameen '10 serves as the Director of Communication Strategy Research and Assessment for the First Marine Expeditionary Force. By night, however, is the CEO of a young startup called Paintru, an online service that connects a customer’s uploaded images with over 700 local and international artists to create custom paintings. “Even photos taken on an iPhone can be hand-painted and turned into beautiful works of art,” he points out. The idea for the company started when J.D. realized just how expensive and time-consuming it was to have paintings made of loved ones, pets, and favorite places. Enter Paintru, which just launched publicly in August and allows users to have their magical moments hand-painted at a fraction of the cost. J.D. credits Gilman with helping him to develop the skills to succeed both as a tactical thinker in the U.S. Marines and as the CEO of a burgeoning company. "Plus," he says, "fellow Gilman alumni have been so helpful through this process that I decided to take the entrepreneurial leap!” Learn more at paintru.com.
UPDATE: Just months after its launch, Paintru partnered with Framebridge, the leader in online picture framing. Click here to read more about the partnership in Forbes.
