Eighth-Grade Gilbots Team Win Judges Award at FIRST Technology Challenge Competition

Join the Gilman community in congratulating the eighth-grade FIRST Technology Challenge Gilbots Team on winning the Judges Award at their completion in DC on Sunday!

During the competition, the judging panel may meet a team whose unique efforts, performance or dynamics merit recognition, yet doesn’t fit into any of the existing award categories. To recognize these unique teams, FIRST offers a customizable Judges Award. The judging panel may select a team to be honored, as well as the name of the Judges’ Award. The Judges Award recognizes a team for their outstanding efforts.

Our eighth-graders competed against high-school students and finished in eleventh place out of 23 teams in their first FTC qualifier.  Highlights included troubleshooting under pressure, exciting lift mechanism explosions on the field, and being one of seven teams to win an award.  Additionally, our boys learned a great deal about how to be gracious and professional outside of the Gilman community.

Team Members: Quinn B., Aman G., Melvin G., Logan H., Arya K., Evan M., Owen M., Adam S., Leo W., and Christopher W.
