Fifth Grader Reads 20 Books to Vote in Black-Eyed Susan Contest

Each year, fifth graders have the opportunity to participate in the voting of the Maryland Black-Eyed Susan Book Award program. In order to qualify, a student must read three of 10 selected books in either category for their grade level. For fifth grade, the categories are graphic novel and fiction/nonfiction.

This year, fifth grader Eamonn K. set a goal for himself: to read all 10 books in both categories. And he did!

Lower School librarian Melissa Da said, “This accomplishment has never happened in my four years at Gilman! I am so proud of Eamonn and all his reading.”

Headmaster Henry P. A. Smyth will celebrate with Eamonn over lunch next month to recognize his achievement.
