Gilman's Model UN is a club where students can improve their debate, communication, and writing skills and attend collegiate-run Model United Nations conferences. This week, 18 club members attended Yale Model United Nations (YMUN) 2021, a virtual conference attended by students worldwide. In preparation for this conference, each member chose a committee. Those committees vary in topics like NATO, UNESCO, UN Environmental Program, UN Development Program, and others. Members wrote 1-2 position papers about the committee topic from the perspective of his assigned country. Students also spent time researching and preparing speeches for the committee sessions during the conference. Each committee was comprised of 40 to over 100 student delegates from various countries. The delegates then debated 1-2 topics over the course of the conference and worked in small groups to pass resolutions on to "solve" the committee's problems. The chairs of each committee give out five awards to the top delegates in each committee.
"I wanted to share this as I am very proud of all of the members of the club who attended this conference. They all worked very hard to prepare for this conference, including writing multiple papers and preparing speeches. Our club is growing every year, and our success at this conference is a testament to our dedication to this club and interest in world affairs." - Manav P, Co-President of Model UN
Join us in congratulating Manav and Silo on their accomplishments.
