Noah Parker '23, a rising senior and one of Gilman News' 2022-2023 editors-in-chief, spent part of his summer participating in The Washington Journalism and Media Conference hosted by George Mason University. As one of 300 students from across the United States selected for this competitive summer program, Noah spent a week touring organizations throughout D.C. and meeting and learning from different professionals about different facets of the journalism industry.
"Some speakers that stood out to me were Eric Lee, a photojournalist who covers everything from the events of January 6 to the experience of an Asian American family raising two young boys in America, Alexis Johnson, a young reporter from Vice News, and Brian Lamb, the founder and former CEO of C-SPAN," shared Noah. "I also got the chance to meet Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger and talk to his director of communications, Mrs. Jaime Lennon. And if that was not a cool enough experience, it was a fun surprise to encounter some Gilman alums working in Congressman Ruppersberger's office. The conference was a really great experience, and I'm looking forward to bringing back everything I learned to enhance our very own Gilman News."
