Lower School students will hone their writing and grammar skills through exposure and activities in a range of writing genres and review activities. Students will write to entertain, persuade, inform, and reflect. We will focus on these main aspects of a well-written piece: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation. Students will get to know themselves and their peers better while engaging in all facets of the writing process: brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. Writing activities will vary in length, depth, tone, and topic. Students will also utilize visible thinking strategies in some brainstorming discussions.

This will be a fun exploration and academic experience in which students will use their math and questioning skills in a range of problem-solving activities and small projects. We will spend time and persevere on puzzles, word problems, logic problems, and fun numeric scenarios while reasoning abstractly and quantitatively. Students will construct viable arguments, make use of models and strategic tools, attend to precision, and make use of structured thinking. We will also play some games to keep students on their toes.
