After School Enrichment

Inspired by a student suggestion, Do Something Club is a relaxed, hands-on club where students engage in a variety of activities such as baking, building, puzzles, crafts, games, and outdoor walks. Each session focuses on doing and exploring together in a low-pressure, supportive environment. Activities emphasize creativity, cooperation, and problem-solving rather than competition or performance. This club is ideal for students who enjoy variety, hands-on learning, and being active with peers. Each week is different, and students will have the opportunity to suggest some things they would like to do!

For kids? Drone racing, building obstacle courses, drone photography, team building…what could be more fun?!

For Parents? Drones are a beautiful way for young people to joyfully engage in collaborative experiences, technology literacy, responsibility, hands-on creation and design, problem-solving, and patience.

For Everyone! Join Mr. C, Gilman’s very own early-elementary music teacher, in a fun-filled 10 weeks with drones!

Fantasy Football is authentic, hands-on computing and mathematical problem-solving that is engaging, student-centered, and an awful lot of fun.  It is an iconic, pop-cultural hobby that is an innovative way to address a number of Common Core math standards while practicing mental math.  Students add, subtract, and continually adjust numbers while examining place value, base-ten patterns, number relationships and patterns, and skip counting.  

Football Fanatics is a week-to-week pursuit for students in grades 4-5 during the NFL season. A particularly precocious third grader could do this; please contact me ahead of time to discuss. Students create a roster of NFL players each week, keeping within a “salary cap,” and each of their players earns them points in a head-to-head contest.  Points are earned based on yardage gained and touchdowns scored.  Familiarity with factors, statistics, data-trend analysis, graphing, probability, and projecting are also skills and concepts that students will engage in.  

Students do not need to be overly knowledgeable about the NFL to be successful, but it does help to enjoy the sport. While we will be attuned to details, this will be laid-back, with personal challenge and accountability built into the mildly competitive activity. If we have extra time during our hour, we will play various types of football-related games.

Calling all 3rd and 4th graders who love dogs, adventure, and helping others! Join The Iditarod Fan Club, an after school club inspired by the famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska. Club members will extend their learning about sled dogs, mushers, teamwork, perseverance, and the exciting history of the race while working together on fun community service projects connected to the Iditarod.

Club members will work with Ms. Reiter to create centerpieces for the famed musher banquet in Anchorage, make cards and care packages for mushers and vets, and celebrate the spirit of determination and teamwork that makes the Iditarod so special. If you enjoy helping others, working with friends, and learning about this amazing race, this club is for you!

Calling all cheese lovers! In this deliciously fun club for students in grades 1–4, we’ll taste a variety of cheeses from around the world, explore fun food pairings, and keep a cheese tasting journal full of flavor notes and silly reactions. Each week brings a new cheese, a cultural connection, and a cheesy activity—like designing labels or holding a “fancy grilled cheese” cook-off. Get ready to snack, learn, and laugh your whey through the wonderful world of cheese!

The Mini Movers Flag Football Program is built around the idea that sports should be both fun and foundational for lifelong athletic growth. Through exciting games, movement-based activities, and beginner-friendly flag football instruction, students will develop key athletic abilities such as running, coordination, balance, agility, throwing, catching, cutting, and reaction skills. The program is designed to keep kids constantly engaged, moving, and smiling while introducing them to the benefits of an active lifestyle in a supportive and encouraging environment.

More importantly, the program focuses on long-term athletic development by helping young athletes build confidence, teamwork, communication, and a positive relationship with sports at an early age. Rather than emphasizing competition alone, sessions are structured to promote creativity, effort, and enjoyment so every child feels successful and motivated to participate. By creating a high-energy atmosphere centered around fun, movement, and personal growth, the program helps lay the foundation for future athletic success across any sport they choose to pursue

A music, movement, and games class that is entirely focused on joyful, collaborative, music-making fun! Kids will enjoy uniquely designed activities, non-overlapping with their classroom music curriculum, that develop joy and our natural love of music.

Calling all curious adventurers! The Nature Explorers Club is the perfect after-school destination for young explorers who love to be outside, discover new things, and get their hands a little dirty. Join us as we venture into the woods, explore the nearby stream, and discover all the hidden treasures nature has to offer!

Each week, we’ll embark on fun outdoor adventures like building forts, wading through streams to catch minnows, and learning about the creatures and plants that make the woods their home. Whether we’re crafting natural shelters, following animal tracks, or dipping our nets into the stream to see what we can find, the possibilities for adventure are endless.

Charm City Music School presents Newsies JR., a fall 2026 musical theater production!

Join us for this fun and high-energy musical, and build acting, singing, and performing skills! No previous theater experience is required. All students enrolled are guaranteed a spot in the ensemble! Leading roles and understudies will be cast by audition.
50 students max; enrollment is first come, first served. Open to Gilman students in grades 2-8.
 
Auditions: Wednesday September 9, 3:30-5:00 pm. Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30 pm (grades 2-5) and 4:00-5:00 pm (grades 6-8).
Program Dates: September 9 through November 18 (final performance Wednesday evening 11/18).
 
About the Show:
Disney's Newsies JR. is a 60-minute version of the 2012 Broadway musical, based on the 1992 film. Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.
When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys' expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what's right.

Including the now-classic songs "Carrying the Banner," "Seize the Day," and "Santa Fe," Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.

Working with LEGOS® allows children to develop their problem-solving skills and to develop their imagination! In this class, the boys use their creativity and engineering skills to respond to a LEGO® challenge each week. They brainstorm ideas, build different structures, and present them to the group. The boys may work together or independently and have opportunities for open-ended work and exploration as well.

Join Sculpture Society Club and get creative with clay, paper mâché, wire, recycled materials, and more! Students will explore different art mediums, build amazing projects, and have fun making new friends while creating unique works of art. Come sculpt, imagine, and create with us!

Instructor: Silver Knights Chess Academy

Fun is the name of the game but Magnus Chess Academy also sneaks in a bit of critical thinking, sportsmanship, and patience into chess club! Each week students of all levels do a fun but challenging lesson with one of our great coaches from our world-class curriculum followed by practice games against other students in the class. Join the 100,000 (and counting!) kids who've learned chess with the official academy of 5x world champion Magnus Carlsen. This in-person club includes online extras like practice tournaments, Chesskid Gold membership ($49 value) and a bonus lesson with Magnus or Judit Polgar, the best female chess player ever!

Soccer Shots is an engaging children’s soccer program with a focus on character development. This program focuses on individual skill, fitness, and sportsmanship, providing an opportunity for children to be challenged through fun games and team interaction. Children will also be introduced to competition in a developmentally appropriate manner.

Instructor: Steve Krulevitz

Steve Krulevitz's after-school program is designed for players of all levels. The curriculum will motivate athletes to develop the fundamental skills they need to become better players. Whether teaching hand-eye coordination or serious athletic training, we emphasize the development of fundamental skills, stroke mechanics, strategy, and mental and physical conditioning.

About the Instructor: Born and raised in Baltimore, Steve Krulevitz competed for over a decade on the ATP Grand Prix Tennis Circuit, where he played Wimbledon nine times, the US Open 13 times, the French Open–Roland Garros eight times, and the Australian Open two times. Krulevitz won 22 professional singles titles and four doubles titles. He ranked top 50 in the world. In 1977, Krulevitz won the Gold Medal for the United States at the Maccabiah Olympic Games in Tel Aviv, Israel. After becoming a dual citizen, Krulevitz represented Israel in the Davis Cup from 1978 to 1980 and coached the Israel Davis Cup Team in 1989.

After retiring from the professional tour in 1984, he started The Steve Krulevitz Tennis Program. Krulevitz competed on the Grand Champions 35-and-older tour from 1985 to 1989. Krulevitz was inducted into the USTA Mid-Atlantic Tennis Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. He currently offers clinics and camps for players of all ages.

Have you ever wondered how movies like Gumby, The Nightmare Before Christmas, or Wallace & Gromit come to life? In this awesome after-school club, we’ll dive into the world of stop-motion animation—using LEGOs! You’ll build your own characters, dream up exciting stories, design cool sets, and bring it all to life in your very own mini movie.

Get ready to think, build, create, and film like a real movie director! This club is all about imagination, teamwork, and tons of fun.

Registration fees are non-refundable. Cancellations on or after the date two weeks prior to the program start date will not be refunded or prorated. The enrolled number of days expires each week; they do not roll into the following week. Unused days will not be refunded or prorated.

Students who are not picked up promptly at their enrichment club's end time will be dropped into the After School Program (ASP) at the flat drop-in rate.

Students who attend ASP must abide by the rules and regulations outlined in the Gilman Student & Parent Handbook for student conduct and behavior. Students must also continue to strive to be honorable and to exhibit the Gilman Five. If a student exhibits a pattern of not displaying appropriate conduct and behavior, the School reserves the right to dismiss the student from the program.
