Dear Gilman Families:

The mission of the Gilman Parents Association is to promote and facilitate communication and cooperation among parents, faculty, administration, alumni, and students. We foster an inclusive community by engaging parents in meaningful ways. Under the guidance of the Director of Parent Engagement, with the administration's support, the Parents Association is governed by parent volunteers who serve as Executive Board officers. This group is charged with planning and implementing programs and activities for students, parents, and faculty alike.

For nearly 50 years, the Parents Association has supported Gilman School and its students in countless ways. In 1971, a group of committed parents and trustees established the organization to provide an avenue for parent involvement in the life of the school. The Parents Association has grown tremendously over the years, and we have come to rely on our volunteers as ambassadors, helping hands, and the spirit behind the Parents Association. We understand that parents are busy with the demands of everyday life, but know that even a small contribution of your time and energy can significantly contribute to our vibrant and inclusive community. Therefore, we encourage you to support Gilman by becoming involved in ways that work best for you and your family.

The Parents Association is funded from annual family dues covering programming costs such as Parent Welcoming Receptions, GrandFriends Day, and Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day, to mention a few.

Thank you in advance to our 2022-2023 parent volunteers and class representatives. This dedicated group will act as a support base for the school community and will work to ensure that it is a place where you feel at home.

Please contact us at gilmanschoolpa@gmail.com or Maria Tilley, Director of Parent Engagement, at mtilley@gilman.edu if you have any questions or want to get in touch for any reason. For a complete list of parent volunteers and class representatives, see below.

We look forward to an exciting year!

Sincerely,

Dorja Marshall, P'22, '24 & Alicia Schmidt, P'24
2022-2023 Parents Association Co-Presidents

Get to Know the Parents Association

The Parents Association counts on the participation of our uniquely talented parents. Each year hundreds of parent volunteers serve as class representatives and spearhead both perennial and one-time projects. Volunteering enables parents to build strong relationships with fellow parents and connect with the Gilman community. And we are so grateful to them! Below we spotlight some of our dedicated volunteers.

Featured parent volunteer: Get to know Meisha

Meisha Dockett

Wellness Committee Co-Chair

From her culinary days as a banquet chef on Capitol Hill to being an integral member of Gilman's Parent Association for the past 12 years, Meisha is an "All in Constituent".

Meisha believes that in order for students to receive the full Gilman experience, parents have to be along for the ride to make that happen.

Featured parent volunteer: Get to know Erika

Erika Slater

Wellness Committee Co-Chair

Name a position on the PA and Erika has been there, done that. All while still finding time to run a law practice, learn to play pickleball, and watch F1 races with her family. Who says you can't do it all?

In her 14th straight year as an active member of Gilman's Parent Association, Erika is a perfect example that you can. So, what does one do when they have already chaired every PA committee that exists? Start a new committee.

Get to know Rebekah

Rebekah Jackson

Recording Secretary

When she isn't off officiating a family wedding, working at Bryn Mawr, or juggling her basic mom stuff, Rebekah is Gilman's PA meeting minute-taker extraordinaire!

Rebekah's word of advice for those who dread morning drop-off...use the lower lot.

Get to know Ali

Ali Pitruzzella

Executive Board Treasurer and Past President

Ali began her career as a newspaper reporter and interviewed the likes of Orioles Hall of Famer Frank Robinson and local chicken pioneer Frank Perdue.

Ali is a true Gilman cheerleader in every sense of the word and can be found at any and all sporting events or sitting around the fire pit with her Gilman neighbors. Ali believes that in addition to meeting amazing Gilman parents, volunteering has given her a greater understanding of what the Gilman community offers.

Get to know Pam

Pam Lloyd

Class Rep Chair

Some people say she looks like Katy Perry. You may have seen her getting whammies on a Game Show Network rerun, crushing it on the Peloton leaderboard, or cheering on her boys at their sporting events. Throughout her seven years at Gilman, Pam has served as a class rep several times and helped organize Hoops for Habitat. Now, as a senior mom and Gilman's #1 cheerleader, Pam has treasured her time with the Gilman PA.

Pam's advice is don't be afraid to ask questions! Getting involved will enrich your journey and help Gilman become the best school that it can be!

Get to know Tracy

Tracy Bradlee

Class Rep Chair

This California native made her way to the east coast via an athletic scholarship in college. She loves taking memorable trips to the beach and skiing out west.

In her eighth year as a member of the Parents Association, Tracy describes her volunteer role as "Director of Whatever You Need." She has done it all, from chairing the Bull Roast to welcoming new families, serving on the Executive Committee and being a class rep.

Her advice to parents is to let their boys be independent. Gilman has their back!
