The Alumni Association Board of Governors (AA BOG) plays a critical role in the vitality of the School, connecting Gilman with its 8,000+ alumni. The group consists of a five-person Executive Committee, 22-25 members-at-large, and three faculty representatives. Members are actively engaged in the life of the School and are selected to represent a diverse array of generations, backgrounds, industries, and experiences.

The AA BOG meets on campus five times per year, with periodic, smaller meetings and conference calls and limited at-home efforts layered in between. Members are expected to play an active role in the life of the School, which can include serving as a school ambassador, attending events, volunteering when possible, and participating in fundraising efforts.

Volunteer Yourself or Nominate a Fellow Alumnus for Consideration

Each spring, Gilman welcomes back to campus 10 (or more!) classes celebrating milestone reunions (i.e., those in increments of five years). Each reunion class is led by a Reunion Chair and Committee that lead its planning and promotions efforts, including making several key decisions, personalizing important communications, and soliciting alumni and recruiting them to attend Alumni Weekend.

Give-a-Thon is the School's single biggest fundraising night of the year. Parent and alumni volunteers rally together for a few hours one evening in October to raise funds for The Gilman Fund, a critical source of revenue for the School that supports the exceptional faculty, facilities, and programming that the boys walking in your footsteps experience every day. As an alumnus, your calls, texts, and emails are the most effective form of outreach to place our annual fund in the strongest possible position at the start of our fiscal year.

In addition to dinner and drinks, we provide Give-a-Thon valuable insights, easy-to-use scripts, and simple tips for speaking with your classmates. No matter your experience or comfort level with fundraising, you are sure to have a great time reconnecting with classmates, competing for prizes, and boosting your class participation.

Gilman alumni play an integral role in the life of the School through a variety of volunteer opportunities that connect them with current students. Such opportunities may include speaking at assemblies or to clubs and classes, participating in student-alumni networking events, offering college and/or career mentoring, and participating in both old and new School traditions.

Each year, Gilman gathers alumni in cities outside of the Baltimore area. Regular visit locations include New York, Washington D.C., Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Other locations are added regularly. For each of these receptions, we look for a host to help identify a location for the celebration, recruit fellow alumni to attend, and share a few words with the group on the night of the event.

Class Secretaries are keepers of stories and compile Class Notes — personal stories from the current lives of alumni, such as new jobs or relationships, special trips or experiences, chance encounters with classmates, etc. — for publication in The Bulletin, Gilman's annual magazine, and online.
