Cummings Retires After Almost 50 Years of Clerical Service

On July 1, Monsignor Carl Cummings '61 retired as the pastor of the St. Jane France de Chantal in Riviera Beach, Maryland, a post he had held since 2009. The retirement marked the end of a nearly 50-year career in the church, which began in 1975 and included a stint as a naval chaplain with appointments in places as far afield as Hawaii and North Carolina. Said Carl, "The need was there and I thought, let's go where the need is." He returned to the Archdiocese of Baltimore in 2001.
