Dinner & Networking

On Thursday, January 23, more than 50 Gilman men spanning almost 30 years gathered in Centennial Hall to talk about life beyond Roland Avenue. The first-ever Dinner & Networking event was developed by the School's Alumni Association Board of Governors to connect current seniors with Gilman alumni working in industries of interest to learn about different career paths, be exposed to the broader "Gilman Network," and to have the chance to network to find a potential Senior Encounter opportunity.

After some opening remarks and dinner, seniors broke up into smaller groups to visit with alumni in eight different industries: Construction/Real Estate/Engineering, Consulting, Education/Non-Profit Management, Finance, Law, Media/Marketing/Communications, Medicine, and Tech. The alumni panelists offered a broad industry overview and then shared their own personal experiences before taking questions from the seniors.

On his way out at the end of the evening, one senior exclaimed, "This was awesome! You need to do this every year!" Another remarked that even though there wasn't an industry that aligned directly with his career ambitions, he was able to get "a couple of really valuable nuggets" from the two sessions he attended.

Said Beau Smith '99, who helped organize the event, "I wish they had something like this when I was in school. I would have really benefited from learning about different career paths available to me at that time."
