Brooks Matthews '87 has decided to step down as the varsity lacrosse coach following the end of the 2019 season. Brooks will complete a 15-year tenure at the helm of the lacrosse program, a span that includes MIAA championships in 2009 and 2011, as well as a #1 national ranking in 2009. Throughout that time, he has demonstrated an unwavering passion and commitment to Gilman, the lacrosse program, and the boys. We are deeply grateful for his efforts on behalf of Gilman lacrosse and are very fortunate that he will remain a teacher and coach at the School. No one wears blue and gray with more pride than Brooks Matthews.
The timing of Brooks’s decision allows us to conduct a search for the next varsity lacrosse coach in a timely manner. Directors of Athletics Lori Bristow and Russell Wrenn '96 will oversee that search and will seek input from various members of the Gilman and lacrosse communities. We aim to post the opportunity statement on the Careers page of Gilman’s website by mid-December, and we will circulate it through the lacrosse community. We hope to complete the search by early spring and will provide updates as appropriate throughout the process.
