Scene Health, a Baltimore-based startup led by Sebastian Seiguer '90, recently secured $17.7 million in series B venture funding. The allocation comes from ABS Capital Partners, with support from Claritas Health Ventures, PTX Capital, Kapor Capital, and Healthworx, the innovation arm of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. The influx represents one of the largest funding rounds of 2023 for Baltimore area companies. Scene Health evolved from a technology developed in 2008 by Johns Hopkins researchers and specialists called "emocha," or Electronic Mobile Open-source Comprehensive Health Application. Through expansion and advancements, the tech grew into the Scene Health brand. Sebastian is the CEO and co-founder of Scene, having joined the group in 2014 as an entrepreneur and Hopkins MBA student.
