Tom Parkinson '66

May 2021

I must begin with some sad news: Tom Parkinson passed away in late November, after a several months’ battle with pancreatic cancer. He died at his home in Maine, surrounded by his three sons, Carter, Zach ’07 and Reed ‘09, and his former wife, Rosemary. Tom and I stayed in close touch during the months he received treatment and up until the end.

So also did a number of class of ‘66, who were good friends while at Gilman, reach out to him by phone, text, and email. Unfortunately, the status of COVID in Maine during that time was such that in-person visiting was not reasonably possible.

After finishing UVA, Tom completed studies and exams to receive his CPA designation, leading to work in public accounting. From there he began a series of CFO positions at two prominent local engineering firms, and at the Baltimore law firm of Tydings & Rosenberg. His last position prior to retirement was as CFO of Baltimore Research, a national market research firm in Baltimore County. Tom handled his illness with courage and dignity, happy to be living in Stockton Springs, Maine, where he enjoyed a spectacular waterfront view, in a locale that he loved.
