Eighth Grade STEM Students Travel to London for Spring Break

The following are summaries written by students during the eighth grade STEM trip to London taken during spring break (March 2024). Middle School teachers Jaakirah Reid, Taushaunna Patience, Eileen Kim, Isaiah Buchanan, and Megan Brenner, along with Alice Dearing from the Advancement team chaperoned the 20 students.

Day 3: Today, we went to the Thames River Barrier and the Greenwich Royal Observatory. We learned about how the machines move to protect the rest of the river and the area from flooding. At the observatory, we saw the Prime Meridian and went to the Planetarium to learn about the moons of different planets. –Aadi G.

Day 4: Today was my favorite day so far. We started off with a long drive to Bletchley Park, which is the sport of breaking the Enigma Code. This was very fascinating! Harry Potter was an amazing experience. It showed the visual and motion graphics for Harry Potter. Ending this day with a great Italian dinner. This day was a great day! –Mark Z.

Day 5: Gutentag! This morning, we journeyed to Chelsea FC. We got a tour, and we got to be on the jumbotron. We had lunch at a chicken place, which was actually better than Popeyes, KFC, and Raising Cane's. Then, we went shopping. We also saw the British Museum and saw a lot of old stuff. Nando's for dinner!!!! –Solomon B.

Day 6: Today, we had a nice and late morning start. We went to the Centre of the Cell. There we played games and met scientists. Next, we went to Spitalfields Market and had lunch. Next, we went to the Shard's spectacular view. Lastly, we went to have dinner at Barrowboy and Banker. –Shaurya S.

Day 7: We started the last day off with a visit to the London Zoo. There, we saw tigers, gorillas, monkeys, otters, flamingos, and many other animals. After that, we went to the bustling Camden Market which was full of food stalls and shops. I got chicken schnitzel and Dutch pancakes for dessert, which were extremely good. After we ate, we walked around and shopped for a bit before going to a science museum. To wrap up, we had dinner at an Italian restaurant of bread, pasta and cake. Everyone is very tired and ready to head home. This trip was very fun and opened a lot of doors for travel down the road. –Jack B.
