Emmitt Sherlock '25 and Bryn Holmes, Associate Director of Athletics and Head Varsity Wrestling Coach, have been named the 2023-2024 All-Metro Wrestler of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, by The Baltimore Sun.
All-Metro Wrestler of the Year
Sherlock received All-Metro Wrestler of the Year after a stellar 2023-2024 season with some of the following highlights:
- A 44-5 overall season record
- A 4-0 record at both the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Wrestling Tournament and the Maryland Independent Schools (MIS) State Tournament
- Second place in the 165-pound final at the 2024 National Preps tournament at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania
"He's a great kid, a great person," Holmes told the Sun. "He really cares about the sport. He does a great job of being positive and supporting the others. That speaks to him as a teammate. … That's why he was a captain as a junior."
All-Metro Coach of the Year
Holmes received All-Metro Coach of the Year after boldly leading Gilman Wrestling through a historic 2023-2024 season with some of the following highlights:
- An undefeated regular season (9-0 in the MIAA A Conference and 12-1 overall)
- MIAA Wrestling Tournament Champions
- MIAA A Conference Dual Meet Champions
- MIS State Tournament Champions
This is Holmes' third Coach of the Year award this season after receiving the designation from both the MIAA and the MIS.
Additional All-Metro Honors
In addition to Sherlock and Holmes' honors, Tyson Sherlock '24, Gabe Smith '25, and Liam McGettigan '27 all received First Team All-Metro Honors from the Sun, and John Jurkovic '25 received Second Team Honors.
