Gisriel '09 Talks Basketball with the Business Club

Ryan Gisriel ’09 joined the Business Club via Zoom on January 23. The club had a great time asking Mr. Gisriel questions and learning the ins and outs of his role as the vice president of basketball and strategy operations for the NBA's Charlotte Hornets.

Students enjoyed this exciting experience, getting a glimpse into the world of professional sports management. Mr. Gisriel shared insights from his career journey, from his time as an intern with the Brooklyn Nets to his current position, which he started in March 2024. Specifically, he shared the thinking behind key decisions he and his teams made during his tenure, including the Nets' acquisitions of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. Mr. Gisriel's more recent decisions in the NBA draft for the Hornets, and his path to acquiring the potential rookie of the year, Kon Knueppel, were really interesting to hear about. It was truly a pleasure to have Mr. Gisriel speak to us, kicking off our inner lesson on sports management and roster development. The club will take the next few weeks to work on an internal competition that puts these lessons into practice!
