Aaron Gokaslan '14 was honored by Mozilla as a member of the "Rise25" list in the Builders category — those chosen by Mozilla for "developing AI through ethical innovation." Mozilla, the free software community founded in 1998, recognized Gokaslan and four other builders as "architects of trustworthy AI, including engineers and data scientists dedicated to the principles of open source, open data, and open science."
Gokaslan is a Computer Science PhD student at Cornell University, where he specializes in generative models, robots, and deep learning. He previously served as an AI Resident with Facebook AI. According to Mozilla, Gokaslan's work "aims to keep generative model development open, accessible, and reproducible." His contributions to open-source software and generative AI have earned praise across the tech world, including a Community Contributor Award at PyTorchCon from the Linux Foundation. He has worked on numerous widely-used, open-source projects downloaded by millions of users.
