Jemmel Green '25 won the 3A Boys 5000 Meter Run Finals at the Ben Bloser Bulldog Invitational on Saturday, September 21 at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pennsylvania, where Gilman competed against 26 teams with 196 runners.
With a finish time of 15:51 for the 5K, Green posted the sixth-fastest time for Gilman since the School has participated in this meet in the last 28 years and is the first Gilman runner to win the Bulldog XC Invite in Gilman School history.
“The course at Big Spring is challenging, but exceptional for its design. One of the more notable features of the course is its rolling hills. Runners never quite get comfortable as they are always moving up and down the hills for up to four kilometers. At that point, they run up ‘killer hill’, a notoriously steep hill that has a reputation for punishing runners both emotionally and physically,” said Assistant Coach Cody Miles. “Jemmel ran a smart race, getting out hard and settling in behind the lead pack. He waited until just before killer hill and made a devastating move on the leaders, increasing his pace up the hill breaking the race wide open. From there, Jemmel continued to push forward, increasing his lead to eight seconds and holding it until the finish line.”
Congratulations, Jemmel!
