Indoor Track Wins Regular-Season Title

by Colin Regan, Sports Information Coordinator and Upper School Faculty

Gilman’s indoor track team clinched the first conference title of the winter season on Friday, January 9 by placing second in the third MIAA Conference group meet with 119 points. This result, when coupled with the Hounds’ performance in the two previous group meets where they placed first and second respectively, gave the team the regular season title. The Hounds will now look to get it done when it matters the most when they finish the indoor season on January 23 with the MIAA Championship Meet, where they will compete for the Johnnie Foreman Cup.

The Hounds were paced by another outstanding performance from Derrick Alexander '27 who dominated the jumping events, placing first in the high jump to go along with second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump. Other first-place finishes for the Hounds came from Cam Donohue '27 in the pole vault as well as the 4x800m relay consisting of the quartet of Jack Mashaw '26, Liam Digges '27, Charlie Paska '27, and Alex Zhao '26. Elsewhere in the relays, the Greyhound 4x400m team of Anderson Isaac '28, Luca Mulligan '27, Andrew Goodale '26, and John Cameron '26 earned a second- place finish. In the throwing events, Gilman’s shot- putters contributed greatly to the team score with Andrew Fribush '27 and Jacob Webster '27 placing second and third, respectively. Elsewhere, Kendall Lunn '26 earned second place in the 55m hurdles, while Leo Bowen '29 placed third in the 3200m, and Anthony Onalopo '27 joined Alexander on the triple jump podium with a third-place finish.

Congratulations to Coach Tully and the rest of the Hounds and good luck at championships in a few weeks!
