A group of students and teachers turned back the hands of time during a European trip with a focus on World War II.
In London they viewed the Imperial War Museum, Churchill’s War Rooms, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and the D-Day Museum. They visited Canterbury and toured its 12th century Cathedral. A ferry ride took them to Normandy, where they explored the D-Day Landing Beaches, Memorial de Caen, the Landing Museum at Arromanches, the American Military Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, St. Mere-Eglise, the Airborne Museum, and other important military sights. The group also visited historic sites in Bastogne, Cologne, and Munich.
During the trip, boys had the privilege of observing a 94-year-old veteran of the 101st Airborne attend the playing of taps at the American Cemetery as the flags were retired for the evening. Each boy collected a poppy from the fields of the Somme, site of a WWI battle, to bring home. They were interested in food as well as history, and were determined to eat every local cuisine offered in each country.
In just ten days, they are packing in a lifetime of memories. You can get a taste of what the boys experienced in these photos.
