Ripken '12 Retires from Baseball, Goes All-In in Broadcasting
Ryan Ripken '12 may have concluded his journey as a baseball player, but his passion for the game continues unabated in his next act as a broadcaster. As he shared recently with the Baltimore Sun, as an analyst, Ripken has removed himself from the enormous shadow cast by his father — Orioles legend Cal Ripken, Jr. — and allowed him to get past the self-doubt that plagued him as a player.
His current duties include being part of a rotation for the "Baltimore Baseball Tonight" pregame show on WJZ-FM 105.7 The FAN, appearing as an analyst for WBFF Fox45, and participating in Fox45's weekly Orioles podcast called "Rip & Roc." He also hosts and produces his own podcast, "Off scRIPt with Rip," and has started to dabble in producing with "The Ryan Ripken" show on YouTube. His goal isn't to provide "hot takes" like so many other broadcasters do but instead to take viewers and listeners behind the lens into what factors contribute to players' struggles and successes.
