Gilman, Bryn Mawr, and Roland Park Country School students are spending three weeks in Spain for a Language Immersion Program. They spent the first three days in Madrid, exploring the city and visiting landmarks including the Plaza Mayor, the Puerta del Sol, the Royal Palace and the Prado Museum before visiting Toledo. They also stopped in Segovia to visit the Roman Aqueduct, the Plaza Mayor and El Alcázar castle.
In the coastal city of Gijón, students live with families for 12 days. They attend two hours of class daily, take all meals at home with families, and participate in organized activities and excursions. The linguistic and cultural benefits of this program have an important and lasting impact on students. In addition to improving their Spanish, they learn to adjust and thrive in a country where the primary spoken language is not English and many of the customs and cultural mores are not their own.
