Head Varsity Tennis Coach Terrance Scott
Terrance Scott to Lead Tennis Program

by Colin Regan, Sports Information Coordinator and Upper School Faculty

Gilman is pleased to announce the hiring of Terrance Scott as the next head coach of the varsity tennis program. He will inherit a program that is rich in success and tradition after the legendary career of former coach Steve Krulevitz, who retired at the end of last season.

Scott is a registered USTA and PTA Tennis professional who brings more than 30 years of coaching experience and expertise. A former standout player at the University of Maryland - Eastern Shore, Scott comes to Roland Avenue after spending the last six years as the owner and director of the All Courts Tennis Academy in Baltimore. Prior to UMD, he spent five years as the Tennis Director at Aspen Hill Club in Silver Spring. His other coaching stops include a seven-year stint with the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education Program in his native Philadelphia and a one-year stint as an assistant coach at his alma mater.

Coach Scott’s coaching philosophy revolves around building young men of character. “While developing our student athletes on the tennis court is important, I believe it’s even more important to build excellent character in these young men, focusing on respect, discipline and integrity,” he said. “There are a lot of life skills that can be learned while playing tennis, and I plan on incorporating all of them in our way of training and competing. Hard work, discipline, intensity, and striving for excellence are my core values.”

He is also looking forward to building a positive culture on the team. “We will work hard but we will also have fun and enjoy this new venture together.”

Athletic Director Russell Wrenn ’96 said, “We are extremely excited to welcome Terrance to Gilman where he will do a great job continuing the legacy of a championship-caliber tennis program. Terrance is a terrific tennis instructor, and his combination of experience as a tennis pro, a college and amateur team coach, and an organized and innovative thinker makes him an ideal candidate to take the reins and lead this program.”

Welcome Coach Scott!
