Emmitt Sherlock '25 returned to Roland Avenue this school year with several medals in hand after wrestling in two major global events over the summer. It was a continuation of Sherlock's athletic success earlier in the year, having been named 2023-2024 All-Metro Wrestler of the Year by The Baltimore Sun in the spring after a stellar season as part of a historic, record-breaking team.
First, in late June, Sherlock traveled to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to participate in the United World Wrestling (UWW) U17 Pan-American Championships. Participating in five total matches as part of the 80 kg weight class, he ended the three-day event with a gold in freestyle and a bronze in Greco-Roman.
In August, Sherlock traveled nearly 6,000 miles to Amman, Jordan, to compete in the UWW U17 World Championships as a double World Team Member, having earlier qualified at the U.S Open Wrestling National Championships in Las Vegas in April. After several days of high-intensity competition against competitors from Armenia, Iran, Japan, and Romania, Sherlock brought home bronze for Team USA, finishing 5th in the 80 kg freestyle finals. Team USA ultimately placed first in the freestyle championships with 152 final points.
Sherlock's recent stats and match recordings from this summer are available on the UWW website.
Congratulations, Emmitt, on an incredible summer season!
