Eighth Graders Honored for High Scores on National Latin Exam

Congratulations to the eighth grade students who were recognized for their achievement on the National Latin Exam. Out of a possible perfect score of 40, the national average was 29; students who earned a 30 or higher were recognized.

Out of 81 Gilman students who took the exam:

  • 3 scored 30-31 (Cum Laude)
  • 18 scored 32-34 (Magna Cum Laude)
  • 20 scored 35-37 (Maxima Cum Laude and a silver medal)
  • 16 scored 38-40 (Summa Cum Laude and a gold medal), including three perfect scores by Michael J., Izumo I., and Connor D.

These students were joined by more than 100,000 others from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as 13 foreign countries including Australia, Belize, Brazil, Canada, China, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.
