Gilman Swimmers Smash Records
Gilman opened up our 'abbreviated' swim season with a meet at home vs. Archbishop Spalding last Thursday, February 25.
- The team started off hot in their first event, 200 yds medley relay composed of Bryce Lloyd '22, Brodie Schrepfer '23, Ryan Blumenfeld '21, and Eric Zhang '21 posting a time of 1:36.09, bettering the previous record of 1:38.20 set in 2019.
- The same four swimmers ended the meet with a blistering 3:11.93 in the 4 x 100 yd freestyle relay, bettering the previous record of 3:16.24 set in 2019, of which Zhang and Lloyd were part of. Lloyd had the leadoff leg on Thursday, where he posted a 47.09, which set a new record for the 100 yd freestyle, previously held by swimming phenom Max Verheyen '19, who achieved his mark of 47.54 in 2019, with the leadoff leg of the relay.
- On Tuesday, March 2, Lloyd will have his sights on 2 more records, the 200 yd freestyle, currently held by Max Verheyen '19 set in 2019 of 1:43.18, and the 100 yd backstroke currently held by C. Wills '07 of 51.54 set back in 2006!
- Another record could be in jeopardy, where Schrepfer will look to lower the 100 yd breaststroke record currently held by T. Tan '16 of 58.21 set in 2016.
The swim season will wrap up on Wednesday, March 10, at home vs. Mount Saint Josephs, where some more records could fall!
