Hounds Win Haswell M. Franklin ’50 Gilman Duals, First Time Since 1987

For the first time since 1987, the Hounds won the Haswell M. Franklin ’50 Gilman Duals with victories over The Kiski School (PA), St Benedict’s (NJ), and Green Farms Academy (CT) on Saturday, January 15.

The Gilman Duals have been a popular tournament since 1984, each year bringing wrestlers from a multi-state area to Gilman. It is an exciting, challenging event that helps prepare our wrestlers for the February tournaments. In non-pandemic years, it also gives alumni, parents, and friends an opportunity to reconnect with one another and the ongoing tradition of Gilman wrestling.

It was the energy and enthusiasm of Haswell M. Franklin ’50 that created the Gilman Duals in 1984. Since its inception, schools from Connecticut, New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, and Maryland have participated, and it has attracted some of the nation’s outstanding high school wrestling teams and talent.

Although never a wrestler himself, Franklin’s love of wrestling was fueled through his four sons who were avid wrestlers at Gilman. In 2009, in recognition of his contribution, the School renamed the Gilman Duals the “Haswell M. Franklin ’50 Gilman Duals” to serve as a lasting and permanent reminder for his amazing commitment to wrestling and to Gilman.

Follow Gilman Wrestling on Facebook and Instagram and watch future meets, including the Worthington Cup showdown versus McDonogh on Friday, February 4, at 6:00 p.m., on GTV's YouTube Channel.
