On Tuesday, February 2 the MIAA announced that the winter sports season will begin, with practices starting on Monday, February 8. Contests will begin in the middle of February and end early in March to prevent significant overlap with the spring season. MIAA schedules will be issued for varsity competition. Gilman will seek to offer limited JV opportunities as allowed by space and time constraints.
In order to participate in winter athletic competition, your son will need to attend school in person. Please contact Tye Campbell if you need to change your son’s learning designation. In addition, your son will need to submit a negative COVID-19 result (must be a PCR test) before returning to campus. You can upload the result to Magnus or email it to School Nurse Edie Meacham.
Gilman has opted to participate in all of the sports offered, so varsity team practices for basketball, ice hockey, squash, swimming, and wrestling may begin starting Monday. There is no indoor track season in the MIAA, but our indoor track athletes may continue to practice as they have been. Your son’s coaches will be in touch with further details regarding practice times, locations, and the season schedule once released.
Spring and fall sports will continue to offer optional practices on their designated days for boys not participating on winter teams. Intramurals are not offered at this time, but are expected to begin on or about March 1, which is the start date of the spring season.
