Seniors Clark and Will Dowling are National Merit Scholarship award winners. The brothers will each receive a scholarship of $2,500 for the college of their choice. Clark has settled on UPenn; Will has not yet decided but is leaning toward Dartmouth.
National Merit Scholars are an elite group. The National Merit Scholarship is one of the highest academic honors attainable by U.S. high school students. Of 1.6 million entrants, Clark and Will are among 2,500 awardees that were chosen from 15,000 finalists. Winners are selected based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments. Considerations include academic record, information about the school's curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, the high school's written recommendation, information about the student's activities and leadership, and the finalist's own essay.
In addition to Clark and Will, Gilman’s finalists were: Alex Duh, Noah Jun, Alan Wang, and Morgan Zinn.
