Bishop Douglas Miles Speaks at MLK Convocation

Bishop Douglas Miles was the keynote speaker at Gilman's annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation on Thursday, January 16.

The Convocation started with a welcome from Director of Community, Inclusion, and Equity (C.I.E.) Johnnie Foreman and an invocation by Kezmond Elliot '20.

The keynote speaker was introduced by Ademi Knorr '20, who listed Dr. Miles’ many achievements. As a native Baltimorean and community activist, Bishop Miles served in ministry for 38 years and in the community as part of various organizations such as Project Safe Haven, Maryland Heath Care Initiative, BUILD, and others.

The audience enjoyed uplifting performances of "Ose Shalom," "Stolen Moments" and "Lift Every Voice" by the Traveling Men, Tri-Division with String Ensemble, and Jazz Group. Prior to the performing "Lift Every Voice", Nigel Parker '20 explained its significance and history.
