Developing the Spirit

In keeping with Gilman’s commitment to developing the mind, body, and spirit of students, Gilman has a vibrant weekly bible study group, which has grown to more than 60 boys. This voluntary, non-denominational fellowship holds a weekly lunch session and recently extended their study to a weekend retreat on the Chesapeake Bay. In its second year, the retreat included 35 Upper School boys, from ninth through twelfth grade, who escaped the daily distractions of life to immerse themselves in prayer, reflection, and fun. The retreat, facilitated by FOCUS leaders (Fellowship of Christians in Universities and Schools), was expanded this year from one night to two and included large group teaching lessons, followed by student-led small group discussions, quiet time for personal reflection with scripture, and prayer.
